Trinity is committed to creating an inclusive environment where candidates with special educational needs, disabilities and health conditions are able to demonstrate their skills and feel welcomed.
The Equality Act 2010 defines disability as:
A physical or mental impairment which has a substantial, long term, adverse effect on a person’s ability to carry out normal day to day activities.
Trinity will make reasonable adjustments to allow candidates with disabilities to access exams fairly and to enable them to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and understanding to the levels of attainment required by the specification for that qualification. We treat each learner individually when considering which reasonable adjustments are appropriate, recognising that requirements vary.
Candidates can be assured that we do not compromise on the standard of marking or allow the quality of exams to be affected in any way. Trinity’s assessment criteria will remain consistent across all exams (and in accordance with Ofqual’s regulated qualifications framework) regardless of whether reasonable adjustments are in place. Requests for reasonable adjustments will only be approved where they do not compromise the validity of the qualification. Please note that additional marks cannot be awarded based on a candidate’s disability or health condition - each exam will be assessed in line with the published assessment criteria for the exam.
Requests for reasonable adjustments must be submitted in advance of an exam by completing the appropriate form, and providing supporting evidence if applicable. For details of the types of adjustments available and the application process involved, please refer to the relevant page below.
Please note that examiners will only make reasonable adjustments which have been approved in advance of the exam. Requests handed to the examiner on the day of the exam will not be accepted.
A new special needs provision form must be submitted for every exam, even if reasonable adjustments have been applied previously:
Candidates with concerns about the physical accessibility of the exam centre (eg wheelchair access, step free access, parking, hearing loops, etc) should contact the exam centre or their Trinity representative in advance of the exam session.
Special consideration may be given to candidates who are ill, injured or suffer other adverse circumstances at or near the time of the assessment or moderation. Please see the Special Consideration Policy for more information.
If a candidate, or their representative, is not satisfied with the decision made by Trinity College London with regard to special needs provision, they have the right to appeal. Any appeal must be submitted in writing to appeals@trinitycollege.co.uk, with supporting evidence as appropriate.
Please note that, while an appeal will be considered and concluded within 30 days of receipt, this may prevent the candidate from sitting the exam on the chosen date.
